When Did Taking Care of Our Health Become So Complicated?

Walk down the supplement aisle and you can find something for almost everything.
Sleep. Energy. Stress. Digestion. Inflammation. Memory. Hormones. Healthy aging.
Then open social media.
One person says you need more protein. Someone else says you're eating too much.
Take magnesium. Take probiotics. Try electrolytes. Track your glucose. Fix your cortisol.
Improve your gut. Optimize your hormones.
After a while, taking care of yourself can start to feel like another full-time job.
And maybe we've made this harder than it needs to be.
What if we stopped starting with the product?
Instead, start with the problem you're actually trying to solve.
“I need more energy” becomes:
Why am I tired?
“I need something for my blood pressure” becomes:
What is contributing to my blood pressure?
“I need something for inflammation” becomes:
Why do I think inflammation is a problem for me?
Those questions may lead to very different answers.
Sometimes the answer may involve medication.
Sometimes nutrition.
Sometimes sleep, movement, stress, or treating an underlying medical condition.
And yes, sometimes a supplement may have a reasonable role.
But now you're not just grabbing an answer because someone offered one.
You know what question you're trying to answer.
You don't need to understand everything about medicine to take better care of yourself.
Sometimes you just need to slow the conversation down long enough to ask:
What am I actually trying to accomplish?
That's a pretty good place to start.
Empowered health wins.
